with Bob Sanger, West Hancock (IA) High School Head Track and Field Coach,
4x State Track & Field Championships, Iowa Association of Track Coaches Hall of Fame, 2x State Football Championships

See how a coach with limited staff puts together a quality team from year to year.

Longtime Iowa High School Track Coach Bob Sanger, takes you through a step-by-step approach to running a high school track practice. Using a voice over narrative with practice footage from his boys track & field program, this DVD shows you how Sanger manages to cover the 18 different events as the only coach.

Using his 45 years of experience, Coach Sanger talks you through the running of two practices: an early season session and a pre-meet practice session. Sanger shows you how to work through the unique challenges that many smaller high schools and middle schools face: A limited (or single) coaching staff, smaller facilities, and athletes who compete in vastly different event groups, such as a distance runner / high jumper combination.

Throughout the video, Coach Sanger gives you a running commentary on the practice video and offers his observations as to what he sees and how he communicates with his athletes.

Sanger's practices include a dynamic warm-up, hurdles, high jump, shot put, discus, distance and middle distance training, an explanation of relay exchanges and the use of relay hand-offs in combination with the cool-down phase of practice. As he moves through the different events, Sanger discusses ideas on time management for each athlete.

Coach Sanger provides an effective two day practice regimen that will help you manage your practices and make the most of limited one-on-one time with your athletes.

71 minutes + 70 minutes of bonus material. 2013.
